Generator Basics
A Generator in Passify is a collection of information, rules and requirements that define how to generate a password. For each password you need, you'll create a Generator. When creating a Generator, you'll assign it a name, adjust the password rules if necessary, and Passify will generate the password. Next time you need the password, you provide your Personal Secret (see What is a Personal Secret for more information), open the Generator and it re-generates it using the same rules.
Storing these rules as Generators is what allows Passify to recall your passwords without having to store the passwords themselves.
Viewing Generator Details Swiping up on the top portion of the Generator page will reveal additional information about that Generator. Items such as creation and last modified dates, tags assigned, or notes you've saved are displayed depending on applicability.
Generator Names
A Generator's name is used to help you recall what it generates a password for. Some examples of what you might use for a Generator name are:
- An internet domain name such as "example.com" or "mywebsite.org"
- A descriptive name such as "Mailbox pin" or "Work email"
- A website domain and description such as "example.com (work)" and "example.com (personal)"
Including an actual domain name somewhere in your Generator names such as "example.com" or "example.com (work)" will allow Passify to automatically configure the password rules if it knows them. It also enables Passify to automatically provide links to password change pages when it is time to update your password.
Generator Icons
Most websites have a small icon file, often referred to as a "Favicon", to represent that site. These favicons are what you see in your tabs and/or bookmarks when you visit those sites in your favorite web browser.
If you include a domain name in your Generator names, Passify can attempt to download those favicons for your Generators. These icons make it easy to recognize what each Generator is for.
Generator Icons are disabled by default Note that for privacy, this feature is disabled by default. When you add your first Generator, Passify will prompt you if you wish to enable it. You can also toggle the feature in Passify's Settings. See our Privacy Policy for more information.
Icon Quality Varies When enabled, Passify downloads icons directly from the source, exactly as provided. For this reason, there can be significant variability between icon qualities and some may look better than others or not appear at all.
Rather than attempting to download icons all at once, Passify downloads these icons as you view your Generators. Eventually, all icons will be downloaded if possible. Not all sites store icons that Passify can understand, so occassionally you may not see any icon.
Icons are cached for a period of time so that Passify is not constantly re-downloading them. However, you can force a refresh at any time by tapping the icon on the Generator's page.
