Sharing Passwords
It is easy to share passwords securely using the combination of Passify's Sync and Tag features.
We recommend that each login utilize it's own unique Generator. In other words, don't share Generators between separate accounts — create a new Generator for each unique login. This prevents an inconvenience where you need to change a password for one account while leaving the other unaffected.
Never use the same password for different accounts! Use a unique Generator for each login, or different Personal Secrets. This ensures that each login will have its own unique password and if one account is compromised, the others will not be.
- Set up Sync
First, set up synchronization on each device using the same sync provider and encryption key settings. This will allow all family members to see the Generators each family member has created.
- Determine Personal Secret strategy
Next, decide on how to apply your Personal Secrets. For individual private logins, we recommend everyone use their own private Personal Secret. For shared accounts, you simply need to use a common Personal Secret that all (or some) family members know.
Single Secret Strategy
All individuals remember a single Personal Secret and use it for all Generators.Mixed Secrets Strategy
Each individual remembers two secrets:- A shared Personal Secret for Generators that are shared (e.g. for shared bank accounts, insurance, subscriptions, etc.)
- A private Personal Secret for Generators specific to them (e.g. private e-mail, social media, games, etc.)
- Utilize Tags for organization
To make things more organized — especially if you have many Generators to manage — you can use Passify's Tagging feature to tag each Generator and organize them into groups. For example, you could create a Tag for each member of your family and assign them to the Generators accordingly.
Passify remembers your last selected Tag across application launches, making it easy to manage a collection of Generators even in a scenario where you're sharing many Generators between multiple individuals.
There is no limit to how you organize using Tags, so structure them in whatever way works best for your circumstances.
