Setting Up 2-Factor Authentication
In Passify, your 2FA TOTP codes are an optional component of each Generator that you create.
When viewing a Generator, you can tap the Passify Key and 2FA Shield Icons in the lower-left corner to toggle between the password and TOTP views.
Enabling TOTP for a Generator
In order to configure Passify to be able to generate TOTP, the website associated with a Generator must specifically provide a 2FA option and support TOTP.
If it does, you can easily set it up in a few steps:
- Navigate to the 2FA setup page on the website associated with your Generator.
The location of where to enable this feature varies wildly with each website, but typically resides somewhere in your account login settings.
Begin the 2FA setup process. The website should display a QR Code. This QR Code represents your 2FA Authentication Key for that website.
Save your 2FA QR Codes We recommend printing these QR Codes and storing them in a safe location as backup should you need to scan them again.
- In Passify, navigate to the Generator for the website and tap the 2FA Toggle button in the lower-left corner.
Tap the camera icon and scan the QR Code, or tap the photo library icon if you a photo of the QR Code is in your photo library.
If the QR Code is a valid TOTP setup key, Passify will immmediately begin generating TOTP values and you will see a progress circle indicating how much time remains for the TOTP to be valid.
- Back on the website, you should be prompted to enter a TOTP key from Passify. This
step is to verify that the setup has successfully been completed.
If the TOTP validation fails, try again. Remember that TOTP are time-sensitive and only valid for a brief period of time.
If the validation continues to fail, you may need to try again, first by cancelling the 2FA setup on the website and clearing the TOTP setting in Passify. See "Clear a 2-Factor Authentication Key" for more information.
Ensure you have a 2FA backup!Along with enabling 2FA, most websites provide "backup codes" in case you are unable to provide a TOTP. It is highly recommended that you download and/or print these backup codes and store them in a safe place.
