Changing Passwords
Because Passify generates passwords algorithmicaly, it is able to maintain a history of your passwords easily and without storing them. This makes changing your passwords easy.
Password Change LinkFor a few days after a password is changed, Passify will automatically display a button to jump to the websites password change page if a domain is present in the Generator name.
Changing Password only
If you don't need to make changes to the generation rules (ie. length, characters, etc.) changing your password is simple:
- In Passify, navigate to the generator for the password you want to update.
- Tap the "+" button in the lower right corner and answer the prompt if asked. Your new password will be generated, but you can still swipe right to view the previous password.
- Manually go to the website in your browser, or tap the change password page link button if it appears (see Password Change Link for more information).
- Log in using your old password (remember to swipe right or tap the left triangle arrow to view the previous password in Passify), and navigate to the password change page if not already directed there.
- Enter your old Passify password if required
- Enter your new Passify password and confirmation if required
Changing Password with generation rule changes:
It is recomended that if you need to change the generation rules and a password at the same time, that you simply create a new Generator, adjust the rules, and remove the old Generator when it is no longer needed.
Be sure to copy your username, tags and any notes you may have added from your old Generator to the new one.
Modifying generation rules will cause current passwords to be lost! Changing Password Generation Rules can result in ALL passwords for the Generator, including previously used ones, being permanently lost. Adjust rules before using passwords from the Generator or create a new Generator if you need to preserve old passwords.
If you wish to continue and use the same Generator and adjust the rules while changing the password:
- In Passify, navigate to the generator for the password you want to update.
- Write down or save your old password temporarily to a safe location. Do not use the clipboard as Passify may clear it.
- Adjust the Generators rules as necessary and Save your changes. A new password will be generated.
- Manually go to the website in your browser, or tap the change password page link button if it appears (see Password Change Link for more information).
- Log in using your old password that you previously saved, and navigate to the password change page if not already directed there.
- Enter your old Passify password if required
- Enter your new Passify password and confirmation if required
Password Change Link
If you make changes to a Generator, and a domain name is present in the Generator's name, Passify will display a link button that will attempt to send you directly to the password change page for that domain. To accomplish this, Passify performs the following steps:
- Try the Well-Known URI for the domain's password change page, e.g. https://example.com/.well-known/change-password
- If unsucecssfull, Passify then refers to it's own internal database of known password change URLs and tries if found
- If neither of these succeed, Passify will finally simply link to the domain's home page
