Password Change Reminders
It is often good practice to regularly change your passwords. Passify can help facilitate this by alerting you when you've been using a Password for a long period of time.
The period of time that determines when a password has become "old" is defined by you and can be specified for all domains, or individiually per-Generator.
When a password is determined to be old, Passify will display an icon next to the name on its list page and also an alert covering the password when the Generator is viewed. Tap the "Ok" button to dismiss the alert. You can then decide if you want to change the password. See Changing Passwords for information on how to update your passwords.
Default Change Reminder Period
In Passify's settings, you can set a default change reminder that will apply to all Generators.
To set the Global Change Reminder Period:
- Tap Passify's menu icon and select "Settings"
- Tap the "Default Change Reminder" option
- Select how old a password must be before Passify reminds you to change it.
Passify's initial setting is 365 days, which is the recommended value. You can disable reminders by setting this to "Never", or set a value as low as 30 days, or as old as 730 days (2 years).
Note that Generator-Specific Reminder Periods override this value.
Generator-Specific Change Reminder Period
If you would rather set Change Reminders for only specific Generators, or wish to override your set Global Change Reminder Period, you can do so by editing a Generator and setting the override.
To set the a Change Reminder Period override for a specific Generator:
- Navigate to the Generator you wish to set the Change Reminder Period for and tap the "Edit" button
- Swipe up and tap the "Change reminder" line item
- Tap the length of time to wait until Passify should alert you
- Tap the "Save" button
Resetting a Generator's Change Reminder
Passify keeps track of the date each Generator's password was last changed. Any time you make a change that will affect the generated password, Passify will reset it's tracking of this date. More specifically, if you perform any of the following, the last password change date will be reset to the current date:
- Change the Current Password
- Change the password generation rules (e.g. Password Length, Character Sets, Starting or Ending character)
Although not recommended, if you want to continue using an old password without updating it, you have a few options to choose from:
- Simply continue to dismiss the old password alert until you are ready to change the password
- Disable the old password alert either in the Default Settings, or for the Generator specifically by setting the time period for the domain to "Never"
- Reset the time-period counter by changing the Current Password to an older one, and then back to your current password by tapping the "Star" icons above each.
